PEARL SCHMIDT
LE MARS, Iowa—Pearl Schmidt, 86, of LeMars, died Saturday, June 24, 1995, at the Abbey in LeMars.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at St. John’s Lutheran Church, ELCA, in LeMars with the Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Schmidt was born Aug. 12, 1908, in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Catherine (Weyen) Frerichs. She attended rural school and married William F. Schmidt Sept. 1, 1926, in Akron, Iowa. The couple farmed near Chatsworth, Iowa, and then west of LeMars for several years, retiring in 1948 and moving to town. She worked at the Kohout Hat Factory and for J.C. Penney in alterations. Mr. Schmidt died in 1976.
Mrs. Schmidt was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, ELCA, and the ELWCA women of the church. She was a seamstress and enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Lu Vois and Mary Ann of LeMars; two daughters and their husbands, Joyce and Marvin Langel of LeMars, and LaDonna and John Poulous of Derby, Kans.; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Schmidt of LeMars; three brothers and their wives, Harold and Alice, Lyle and Myrna, and LuVerne and Sally, all of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister and her husband, Ruth and Roger DeVall of Clarksville, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Marlowe.
