Helen Plueger, 72, of rural Le Mars, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at her home.

Helen Elaine Torwelle was born Aug. 6, 1936, at Ireton, the daughter of Carl and Clara (Willemstyn) Torwelle. Helen was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ireton. She graduated from Ireton High School in 1954. She had worked as a unit secretary for both St. Joseph Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital in Sioux City.

In 1968, Helen was united in marriage to Stanley Plueger. In the late 1980s, Helen went to work for the Pride Group in Le Mars, retiring in April 2008 after 20 years of dedication.

Helen was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church. She enjoyed collecting ceramics and listening to country music. Her children were a very important part of her life; she especially enjoyed being a grandmother. She will be remembered for her great cooking and friendliness to all.

Survivors include her three children: Dennis Peterson of Sioux City, Kim Plueger of Le Mars, and Kelly Plueger and his wife Julie of Craig; two grandchildren, Rene Van Whye and Isabelle Marie Plueger; a sister, Janice Torwelle of Sioux City; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Torwelle of Ireton, Gladys Schultz and her husband of Merrill, and Arlene Olson of Le Mars; her mother-in-law, Minnie Plueger of Le Mars; and two nieces.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Clara (Willemstyn) Torwelle; her husband, Stanley Plueger on May 5, 1995; a brother, Melvin Torwelle; and her father-in-law, Fred Plueger.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars, with the Rev. Daniel Gerrietts officiating. Interment will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitations will continue Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Max Utesch Jr., Max Utesch IV, Rod Renken, Ron Marsh, Robert Schiltz, and Will Lalk. Honorary casketbearers will be Vicky Janes, Chock Jost, Joyce Renken, Martin Buys, George Buys, Dan Urban, Rick Plueger, and Ed Clark.
