DIED.
At the home of his son, George Howes, in Washington township, on the morning of the 19th inst., James M. Howes, aged 78. Bright’s disease was the cause of death. The deceased was one of the early settlers of Plymouth County, having homesteaded on the Mink Creek, near Merrill. He was born in London, England, was a soldier in the British army, in the Scotch Fusilleer Guards, and served under Gen. Charles Napier in Spain and Portugal. He left England 52 years ago, and 42 years thereafter visited the old home and spent several months there. His wife died about ten years ago. He leaves three sons and one daughter; the latter is Mrs. Kidd of Akron. He was well-known and respected. The burial took place in the LeMars cemetery on Sunday.
