David R. Colling, 55, of Remsen, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at his home in Remsen Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.

David R. Colling was born July 23, 1953, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars, the son of Carl and Mildred (Arens) Colling. David was raised in Remsen and attended St. Mary Catholic School in Remsen from which he graduated in 1971. He then worked for the city of Remsen for a short time and then worked in road construction. He was employed at Harker's Distribution Inc. in Le Mars from 1979 until their closing in 2007.

On Oct. 18, 1980 he married Julie Rosburg at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen, where they made their home.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time outdoors in his free time. He also enjoyed driving around listening to music in his brown convertible. His greatest joy in life was his family and his canine companion, Kirby.

Survivors include his wife, Julie; one daughter, Rachel and her special friend, David Keffeler and one son, Cody, all of Remsen; three brothers and their wives, Ron and Katie of Sioux City, Steve and Karen of Remsen, and Chuck and Patti of Sioux City; two nephews, Brett Colling of Cedar Falls and Michael Colling of Sioux City; one niece, Melissa Colling of Sioux City; his mother-in-law, Shirley Bass of Remsen; and one brother-in-law, T. J. Rosburg of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Thomas Rosburg; and stepfather-in-law, Charles Bass.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Wiliam McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today (Tuesday), at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a scripture rosary at 4 p.m. by St. Mary High School students and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Jack Collins, Todd Pick, Clay Keleher, Rick Hoffman, Brett Colling, Ryan Feeck, Dan Colling and Ron Hoffman. Honorary bearers will be Garret, Russel and Seth Schroeder, Ryan and Kolby Hajek, Beau Pick, Billy and Andy Steichen, Zane Phillips and Michael Clarkson.
