CATHERINE SCHEFSTAD

REMSEN, Iowa---Catherine Schefstad, 91, of Remsen, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with a rosary by the Christian Mother’s at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mrs. Schefstad was born July 1, 1909, in rural Remsen, the daughter of Jacob and Julia (Sonsma) Poeckes. She was raised and educated in the Remsen area. She married Frank Schefstad Oct. 18, 1928, in Remsen. He died June 8, 1967.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dr. Wilbur and Helen of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; a daughter and her husband, JoAnn and Harold “Pete” Means of Marcus, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Eugene Poeckes; and a sister, Mary Pick.

Pallbearers will be David, Jason, Ray, Rory and Wayne Means, Anthony, Michael and Steven Schefstad.
