MILTON SCHMITT
REMSEN, Iowa---Milton Schmitt, 86, of Remsen died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mr. Schmitt was born June 3, 1914, in rural Remsen, the son of Frank and Louise (Clees) Schmitt. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education in both the rural school system and St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen. He married Gertrude Ruba in Feb. 1939, in Oyens, Iowa. They farmed near Remsen and retired on the farm in 1979. They moved into Remsen in 1992. She died Aug. 28, 1992. He had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center since Oct. 4, 2000.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles of LeMars.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Marvin & Donna and Kenneth & Marilyn, all of Remsen, and Ronald & Sherri of LeMars; a daughter, LaVonne Schmitt Gordon and her husband, Allen, of Nederland, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Minnie Schmitt, of Remsen.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, ____ Schmitt, and two brothers, Anthony in infancy and Alfred.
