Joseph Charles Nicholls Jr., 51, of Le Mars, died April 23, 1994, at his home.

Mr. Nicholls was born Feb. 14, 1943, at Ogden, Utah, the son of Joseph C. Nicholls Sr. and Helen (Leadbeater) Nicholls. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1961, and served 10 years in the U.S. Navy. He attended four years of Music School in the Navy.

He married Carol Russell May 5, 1963, in Kearneysville, W.V.

Mr. Nicholls lived in Denver for three years, moved to Phoenix, Ariz., for five years, and then moved back to Denver until 1986. Since that time he had lived in Le Mars.

Survivors are a daughter, Leah Michley and her husband, Jay, of Martinsburg, W.V.; two grandchildren, Gabrielle and Conner of Martinsburg, W.V.; a half-brother, Gary Pecks and his wife Rochelle, of Le Mars; a niece, Tanya Pecks and a nephew, Chad Pecks, both of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and stepfather.

Memorial serviced will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le mars, with Rev. Arie Olivier officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery Veteran’s section, Le Mars, at a later date. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation.
