J. G. GREBNER, 95, DIES AT MERRILL
John George Grebner, 95, Merrill’s oldest resident, died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Hammond, in Merrill.
Despite his advanced age, Mr. Grebner had been able to be up and about much of the time until the holiday season.
He was a pioneer resident and farmer in Johnson township, where he served on the school board, and as justice of the peace until retiring and moving to Merrill in 1912.
He was born Oct. 1, 1856, in Joe Davies County, Ill., and came to this county in 1882. His wife died in 1939. They were married at Schapville, Ill., Feb. 10, 1882, and left the following day for Plymouth county.
Funeral services at the Methodist church in Merrill are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday. They will be conducted by the Rev. M.L. Metcalf, assisted by the Rev. John Howdeshell, both of Sioux City.
Luken’s funeral home have charge of the arrangements and burial will be in the Merrill cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, John W., Webster, S.D., and Walter G., Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Mrs. Fred Hammond, Mrs. Adam Tindall and Miss Clara Grebner, Merrill.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
