Glenn H. Detloff, 89, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital in Sioux Center.

Glenn Howard Detloff was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Le Mars, the son William and Lydia Mae (Pech) Detloff. Glenn was baptized into the Methodist faith. He attended country school in Elgin Township and later graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1936. Glenn was united in marriage to Marian Buss on June 7, 1939. Glenn and Marian began farming in Fredonia Township in the spring of 1941and continued to farm, feed cattle and hogs until Glenn semi-retired from farming in 1979. Marian died Sept. 21, 1977. After Glenn retired he continued to live on the farm until his death.

Glenn enjoyed fishing and playing cards with family and friends. Through the years Glenn enjoyed shooting trap with his sons and spending time with his grandchildren. Glenn was a longtime member of the Seney United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three children, Roland Detloff and his wife Barb of Le Mars, Jane Brei and her husband Fred of Reddick, Fla., and Mike Detloff and his wife Kathy of Le Mars; five grandchildren, Chris and Katie Gabel and their daughter Katelyn of Reddick, Fla., Liz and Keith Wagner and their son Levi of McHenry, Ill., Jenelle and John Rodemeyer and their children Stephen and Matthew of Gilbert, Ariz., Melissa Detloff of Minneapolis, Minn, and Matt Detloff of Le Mars; one brother, Wayne Detloff of El Cerrito, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Rose Detloff of Sturgis, Mich.; a brother-in-law and his wife Earl and Fay Buss of Le Mars; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lydia Mae (Pech) Detloff; his wife, Marian; a sister in infancy, and four brothers: John, Robert, Warren, and Carl Detloff.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Jason Larson of the Seney United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitations was after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Visitation resumed Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers weree Jenelle Rodemeyer, John Rodemeyer, Melissa Detloff, Liz Wagner, Chris Gabel, and Matt Detloff. Honorary pallbearers were Cliff Perry, Bill Osborne, and Lloyd Buss.
