AKRON, Iowa -- Kenneth F. Port, 81, of Akron died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, with the Rev. Marilyn Winch officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Kenneth Port was born June 20, 1920, to Fay and Alma (Morehead) Port in Westfield, Iowa. He attended rural school and Akron High School.
He married Carol McElhaney on Dec. 20, 1942, in Oakland, Calif. He was employed with Jasperson Oil Sales before his induction into military service during World War II, in July 1942. He served in the states and in Europe, being discharged in February 1946.
Mr. Port was employed as an auto mechanic for Hufton Tufty Co. in Sioux Falls, S.D., with Hayes Motor Co. in South Sioux City, and as a farm equipment mechanic for Brodic Implement and Barwick Implement Co. in Akron, retiring in 1983. He drove a school bus for Akron-Westfield Community Schools until 1991.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Hoschler American Legion Post 186.
Mr. Port is survived by his wife; two sons and their wives, Dale and Donna Port of Moseley, Va., and David and Debrah Port of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren, Nathan Port and Jennie and Ashley French of Richmond, Va., and Aaron and Kenan Port of Naples; and a great-granddaughter, Audrey port of Richmond.
