REMSEN, Iowa -- Ethel Marie Ruba, 83, of Remsen died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Revs. Nicholas Ruba, Terry Roder, Timothy Johnson, Thomas J. Hart and John McGuirk officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 3 p.m. by Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America, and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Ethel was born June 7, 1919, in rural Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of William and Margaret (Borm) Hansen. She was raised on a farm north of Remsen and received her education attending rural school.
She married Irvin Ruba on Nov. 27, 1941, at Remsen. The couple farmed in the Remsen area until they retired and moved into town in March 1983. Ethel had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center since July 22, 2002.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America and Happy Siesta Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She especially enjoyed sharing special moments with her family as they were so dear to her.
Survivors include her husband, Irvin of Remsen; three sons, Ronald and his wife, Ruth, Jerome and his wife, Lynne, and Richard, all of Remsen; five daughters and their husbands, Mary Ellen and Jim Wurth, Karen and Jim Krier, Rose and Ron Krier, all of Remsen, Linda Kay and David Zweifel of Beresford, S.D., and Marilyn and Mark Boyle of Danbury, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Joe Feller.
Pallbearers will be Tom, Dan and Steve Krier, Bill Ruba, Tony Wurth and Gregory Zweifel.
