LE MARS, Iowa -- Frieda McAninch, 91, of Le Mars passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at her residence.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars officiating. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Frieda Gerhardine Wilken was born April 19, 1911, in Preston Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Gerhard F. and Meta (Martfeld) Wilken. She attended country school in Preston Township. Following her education, she assisted her family with farming.
On Feb. 27, 1940, she and Wendell Clare McAninch were united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm in South Dakota, across the river from Hawarden. They retired in 1965 and moved to Le Mars. Wendell passed away in Le Mars on March 20, 1990.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed working in her yard, especially with her flower and vegetable gardens.
She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her family and was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wendell; six sisters, Kate Siebens, Hannah Grasz, Margaret Wilken, Edna Wilken, Minnie Gabel and Dena Jacobs; and two brothers, John and Art Wilken.~Sioux City Journal of 04 December 2002
