L. "Joyce" Hill, 68, of Sioux City died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at her residence following a lengthy illness of cancer.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Whitfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neva Thom Perdue officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mrs. Hill was born Feb. 11, 1934, in Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of William "Eldon" and Lois (Koon) Applegate. She grew up on a farm north of Sioux City and attended country schools. She graduated from Central High School in 1952.
She married T. "Dean" Hill on July 27, 1952, in Sioux City. She was a homemaker for many years before she and Dean purchased the Riverside Dairy Queen in 1980. They owned and operated the Dairy Queen for 17 years.
She was a longtime member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and had served on numerous church boards and the church circle. She was a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Auxiliary and the Daughters of the Nile -- Hathor Temple 38.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Ted, Michael and Tim, all of Sioux City; and a grandson, John Hill.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Dunbar, Duane Thompson, Ron Simmons, John Hill, Bill Shattuck and Dale Rabbitt.
