KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Estelle Darlene Hendricks, 87, of Kingsley died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Char-Mac Assisted Living in Lawton, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Kingsley, with the Revs. Robert Blair and Mike Inman officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley. There will be no viewing at the church or cemetery.

Estelle was born Jan. 12, 1915, at the farm home of her parents, Albert and Nettie (Ray) Kurtz in Kingsley. She moved with her parents as a young child to Wessington Springs, S.D., where she attended rural elementary school. The family moved back to the Kingsley area, where she attended public school, graduating from Kingsley High School in 1932.

In 1936, she married Francis "Shorty" Hendricks and they lived on a farm northwest of Kingsley for 38 years. They retired to Kingsley in 1980. She was baptized as a young girl and was a lifelong member of Church of the Brethren. Estelle also belonged to farm women's birthday club, a woman's coffee club and a canasta club. She enjoyed gardening and her house plants. She quilted many quilts and loved any kind of hard work. She was employed with Floyd Valley Hospital for seven years and with Kingsley Medical Clinic for 14 years.

Grateful for sharing her life is her husband, Francis "Shorty" Hendricks; three sons and their families, Larry and his wife, Sharon Hendricks of Sioux City, and their three daughters, Cindy and Dennis Edwards and their sons, Bryce and Drake of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Laurie and Dan VanDerLinden and their son, Tanner of South Sioux City, and Judy Vega and her son, Taylor of Gilbert, Ariz.; Francis Jr. and his wife, Jean Hendricks of Abilene, Kan., and their children, Darren and Sarah Hendricks and their daughter, Rachael of McPherson, Kan., Shelly Hendricks and her fiance, Matthew Abts of Minneapolis; and David and his wife, Anne Hendricks of South Bend, Ind., and their children, Sarah and Andy Wagoner of South Bend, Seth Hendricks of North Manchester, Ind., and Stephen Hendricks of South Bend; two sisters, Gladys Graham and Phyllis Monke and her husband, Melvin, all of Kingsley; a brother, Laverne Kurtz and his wife, Mildred of Kingsley; many nieces, nephews; and a special friend and former pastor, Leola Allen.

Estelle was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Emery and Muriel Kurtz and their two sons, Johnny and Jerry Kurtz; and a brother-in-law, Harold "Hap" Graham.
