Life’s End
HAROLD A WIER, 74, NATIVE OF LE MARS, WAS POLICE OFFICER

Funeral services for Harold A. Weir, 74, of Sioux City, former chief of the Sioux City Police Department Identification Bureau, were at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Third Presbyterian Church.

Rev. Dr. R. N. Miller, stated clerk of the Northwest Iowa Presbytery, officiated.

Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home.

Mr. Weir died last Thursday afternoon at a hospital after an illness of about three weeks.

Mr. Weir joined the police department in 1927 as a patrolman. He became a detective in 1938, and chief of the identification bureau in 1942. He retired from the police force in 1947.

He was employed in the Woodbury County Assessor Office from 1947 until 1965, when he retired.

He was born Nov. 12, 1892, at LeMars. He married Berniece Holloway July 8, 1930, at Spirit Lake.

He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, Sioux City, Policeman’s Burial Assn, Iowa State Policemen’s Assn., and Iowa Assn. of Chief of Police and Police Officers.

Surviving is his wife.

~Note: Per SSDI online his birth date is 12 Nov 1893 (not 1892 which the obituary states.) The SSDI has his date of death as May 1967. If he was truly 74 at death in May of 1967, then his year of birth should be 1892.
