Frank L. "Hank" Heeren Sr., 85, of Sioux City died Monday, June 7, 2004, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leo E. Kostizen of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserve. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Heeren was born Oct. 19, 1918, on a farm near Le Mars, Iowa, the son of William F. and Mary V. (Oltmans) Heeren. He moved with his family to Sioux City at the age of seven. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a medic and served in the European Theater and was involved in D-Day. He received two Bronze Star Medals.
He married Gladys B. Oddy on July 5, 1951, in Le Mars. He was employed with Armour and Co. for 20 years until it closed. More recently, he was a foreman with the Sioux City Street Department, retiring in 1984.
He was a long time active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; a son, Frank L. Heeren Jr. of Sioux City; two sisters, Emma Pahl and Helen Mae Kellison, both of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant grandson, William Wayne Heeren; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be Mike Sheridan, Bill Sheridan, Larry Derby, Freddie Derby, Dan Sitzman, Ted Oddy and Gary Oddy. Honorary pallbearer will be Pat Sheridan.
