IRETON, Iowa -- Alvin F. Harms, 65, of Ireton died suddenly Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa, with the Rev. A. Pete Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton. Visitation will be after noon today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.

Alvin F. Harms was born June 18, 1938, west of Le Mars, Iowa, to Jurgen and Katherine (Beitelspacher) Harms. He attended rural school and since the age of nine, he had used a wheel chair. He was employed as a jeweler at Jerry's Jewelry in Hawarden, Iowa, and later for Dick Van Gelder in Orange City, Iowa. He later built Harms Rec. in Ireton.

He was active in many activities in Ireton. He was a member of the Ireton Storm Watchers, the gun club, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig and spent much time with the Super Strop coffee drinkers. He enjoyed going to sales and auctions. He also enjoyed compiling his family history.

He is survived by three brothers and their wives, Clarence and Pat of Bellevue, Wash., Arthur and Darlene of Estelline, S.D., and Ernest and Iona of Henderson, Nev.; a sister and her husband, Marion and Ocie Jarrett of Rochelle, Ill.; and many nephew, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and great-great-nieces.
