William F. Grosenheider Sr.

LE MARS, Iowa -- William F. Grosenheider Sr., 83, of Le Mars passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

William Fredrick Grosenheider was born March 20, 1922, in Plymouth County, Iowa, to Emil and Anna (Pageler) Grosenheider Sr. He attended rural school near his home. Following his graduation, he went to work for a nursery in Le Mars. He then began his 34-year career with Wells' Dairy.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He began his active duty on Jan. 18, 1943. He served overseas in the European Theater with the Medical Corps. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 28, 1946, having attained the rank of technician fifth grade. He returned to Le Mars and continued his work at Wells' Dairy.

On Oct. 9, 1946, he and Florence Andersen were united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The couple made their home in Le Mars, where they started and raised their family. He retired in 1975 as a machine operator from the north ice cream plant.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the American Legion Wasmer Post 241. He enjoyed fishing with his sons and was an avid walker.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Florence of Le Mars; two sons and their wives, William Jr. and Gail of Casper, Wyo., and Thomas and Mary of Le Mars; five grandchildren and spouses, Lori and Mike Tomlinson, Christopher and Heather Grosenheider and Dawn and Travis Togstad, all of Casper, Wyo, and Matthew and Audra Grosenheider and Corey Grosenheider and his special friend, Sammi Corbin, all of Le Mars; 10 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Stephanie, Michael, Christopher and Meghan Tomlinson, Caitlin Grosenheider, Jonathan Togstad, Meghan, Chandler and Brandon Grosenheider; a brother, Emil Grosenheider Jr. of Le Mars; brothers-in-law and wives, Russell and Marie Andersen of Paullina, Iowa, Ronald and Geri Andersen of Glendale, Ariz., Robert and Darlene Andersen of Sioux City and Richard Andersen of Burnsville, Minn.; two sisters, Annie Charlson and Arlene and her husband, William Grady, all of Le Mars; sisters-in-law and husbands, Helen Harms of Le Mars, Hazel and Virgil Johnson of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Estella and Willard Herman of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, Alvin and Lloyd; and three sisters, Minnie Ruether, Lorraine Pennings and Lula McClintock.
