PIERSON, Iowa -- Ruth M. Grieve, 92, of rural Pierson passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Correctionville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Correctionville, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christian Church in Pierson, with the Rev. Marty Young officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Kingsley, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Ruth Mae Grieve was born Nov. 7, 1911, on the Grubb family farm near Kingsley, to Thomas John and Ottie Mae (Grubb) Maxwell. She attended country school and later cared for her ill mother at home.

On Aug. 17, 1940, she and Malcolm Halling Grieve were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm near Pierson, where they farmed until Jan. 5, 1980, when Malcolm passed away. She continued living on the farm with her son, Donald, until moving to Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center on Oct. 22, 2002.

She was a member of Christian Church in Pierson and had been active in Christian Women Fellowship. The couple were members of the Farm Bureau and enjoyed its activities. She was always concerned for others and enjoyed feeding people. She liked gardening, sewing and embroidery, reading, watching birds and playing the piano in her early years.

She will be lovingly remembered by a son and his wife, Douglas and Marianne of Tonica, Ill., and their five children, Lewis Donald of LaSalle, Ill., Thomas of Cusseta, Ga., Jason of Poway, Calif., Nicole of Tonica, and Kevin of Tonica; a son, Donald of Pierson; a daughter, Madeleine Grieve of Wheaton, Ill.; and a niece and her husband, Phyllis and Gordon Weber of La Mesa, Calif.

In addition to her husband, Malcolm, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Howard and Leslie; and infant twin brother and sister.

Memorials may be directed to the Christian Church of Pierson or the Pierson Fire Department and Ambulance.
