LE MARS, Iowa -- Clara Edith Greenwaldt, 103, of Le Mars passed away Monday, March 8, 2004, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, Iowa, with the Rev. David Kottlowski officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7:30 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Clara Edith Greenwaldt was born Nov. 1, 1900, two miles west of Neptune in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry L. and Emma (Beck) Ideker. She attended country school. At the age of 16, she became the organist at Trinity Lutheran Church.
On Aug. 21, 1924, she and Herbert W. Greenwaldt were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple made Neptune their home, where they owned and operated the general store. They retired in 1963 and moved to Le Mars. She moved to Brentwood Good Samaritan Center on Oct. 13, 1997.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she played the organ for 50 years. She also was a charter member of the Ladies Aid. The couple enjoyed playing cards and fishing trips with their many friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by a daughter and her husband, Betty and Grant Franker of Spirit Lake, Iowa; a son and his wife, Donald and Nancy of Mission Viejo, Calif.; six grandchildren, Stephen Franker and his wife, Dianne of Spirit Lake, Ralph Greenwaldt of St. Louis, Mo., Fay and her husband, Greg Murray of Martinez, Ga., Gail Mossman of St. Cloud, Minn., Jill and her husband, David Rasmussen of Des Moines, and Dawn Marie and her husband, Todd Ziemer of Mission Viejo; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Robinson of Lawton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert on Nov. 16, 1992; a nephew, Donald Ideker; a sister, Elsie Casper; and five brothers, Arthur, Elmer, Walter, Albert and Louis.
