HAWARDEN, Iowa -- Matilda M. Goodrich, 90, of Hawarden died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Matilda M. Goodrich was born March 16, 1913, near Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Luschen) Peters. She attended Scott Schools in Union County, S.D.

She married Lowell Goodrich on Jan. 31, 1929, in Hawarden. She worked in the War Plant in Waterloo, Iowa, and later at Otis Radio in Hawarden. The couple started Avalunch Drive-In in Hawarden, which they ran 24 hour a day and seven days a week. Following the sale of the Avalunch, the couple worked as custodians at IBP. Lowell died July 13, 1978. She moved to Hillcrest Health Care Center in March 1996.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed quilting with other members. She also loved growing flowers, her home and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Delores and Ralph Bos of Hawarden; a brother, Delbert Peters of Spink, S.D.; three grandchildren, Lindy Rich, Randy Rich and Rita Martin; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; seven sisters, Marie, Rose, Ellen, Evelyn, Ida, Iva and Lillian; and a son-in-law, Alvie Rich.
