AKRON, Iowa -- Alice M. Lamoureux, 85, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of Akron, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron.
Alice M. Lamoureux was born March 18, 1919, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of August and Margaret (McLaughlin) Wiese. Early in her childhood, she moved with her family to South Hempstead, N.Y., where she attended school and graduated from East Rockaway High School. Following school, she went to work for the city of New York and later for Nordan Bomb site during World War II.
During that time she met her future husband, Paul Lamoureux. After the war, they moved to Chicago, Ill., where they were united in marriage on March 29, 1941. In 1949, they moved to the Akron-Westfield area, where they farmed for many years. She was a homemaker for her husband and two daughters. After her husband passed away on April 12, 2000, she moved to Le Mars to be closer to her daughter.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she belonged to the Altar Society. She was also a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed gardening and doing crossword puzzles. But most of all, she loved the time spent with her family.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Bette and Dick Closter of Le Mars and Ellen and Tom McMillan of Lincoln, Neb.; six grandchildren, Mike McMillan, Amy and her husband, Mike Sacca, Kathy McMillan, Rachel Koch, Erin McMillan and Theresa Closter; eight great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Marie Ward; and a great-grandson, Taylor McMillan.
Pallbearers will be Dick Closter, Tom McMillan, Theresa Closter, Mike McMillan, Amy Sacca and Craig Wilken.
