LE MARS, Iowa -- Mary E. Lake, 95, of Le Mars died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jon Meredith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

Mary Elizabeth Edwards was born June 27, 1906, in Le Mars, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Wise) Edwards. She attended high school in Le Mars and later performed housework for local families.

On Sept. 23, 1925, Mary married Robert Bernard Lake in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Le Mars prior to moving to the Lake family farm west of Le Mars. The couple lived there until Robert passed away on Jan. 6, 1985. Mary moved to Le Mars and later to Brentwood Good Samaritan Center on March 21, 1996.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and her husband, Sally and Robert Kirkman of Des Moines; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Doris and Charlie Keehn of Seney, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Jr.; two brothers; and a sister.
