AKRON, Iowa—Henrietta “Etta” Wilhelmina Huff, 84, of Akron, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 1995, at the Akron Convalescent Care Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brule Creek Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, S.D., with the Rev. Leslie Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
She was born May 12, 1910, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of John and Margaret (Stahlbaum) Tieden. She was a lifelong resident of the Hawarden/Akron area and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1928.
Following graduation, she taught school in Sioux and Plymouth counties for 14 years. She married Russell E. Huff June 2, 1943, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hawarden. They lived on a farm in Union County, S.D. In 1964, she began working at the Akron City Care Center where she worked as a nurse’s aide until her retirement in 1978. She moved from Union County to Akron, Iowa, in 1985. She entered the Akron City Convalescent Care Center, Sept. 18, 1994.
Mrs. Huff was a member of the Brule Creek Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, Lawrence R. and his wife Jaynette of Conway, Ark.; three stepchildren, Eldon Huff of Akron, Lorraine Gabbert and her husband Charles of Park Rapids, Minn., and Shirley Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hannah Johnson of LeMars, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Elizabeth Meether, and a brother, Lawrence Tieden.
Pallbearers will be Tim and Terry Gabbert, Gary Johnson, Dave and Greg Heeren, and Dallas Wilken.
