PARENTS: son of George and Eva (Martin) Hughes
SPOUSE & DATE of MARRIAGE: Helen E. Keairnes, Oct. 17, 1931
PLACE OF MARRIAGE: Elk Point, S.D.
OCCUPATION: He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, aboard a sectional floating dry dock repair ship. He worked at Cudahy’s Packing Co. and then for the State Hiway Commission. He was self-employed truck driver working on the Alcon Highway in Alaska. He moved to Plymouth County, Iowa, in 1953, and farmed until retiring.
SURVIVORS: include a son and his wife, Charles F. and Anna Hughes of Westfield; a daughter and her husband, Beverly D. and Duwane Waddell of Westfield; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
PRECEDED in DEATH by: His wife died July 23, 1997, in Westfield, Iowa. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Vincent; a granddaughter, Karen Waddell; a grandson, Richard Hughes; a brother and eight sisters.
PLACE of BURIAL: Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa
