KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Jean D. Hardie, 81, of Kingsley died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Kingsley, with the Rev. Robert Blair officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Pierson, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Jean was born March 10, 1920, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the daughter of George F. and Minnie (Helgerson) Goddard. She spent her early childhood in Esmond, S.D., before moving to Pierson when she was 11 years old. She graduated from Pierson High School in 1938.

She married Harold Reinking on Aug. 28, 1938. They farmed in the Pierson area until Harold's death in 1967. Jean and Harold had two daughters, Judith Ann and Karen Jean.

In 1971 she married Walter Ploen. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Moville, Iowa, area until Walter's death in 1980. She then moved to Spooner, Wis., until 1985, when she married William Hardie and returned to the Kingsley area. They farmed in the Kingsley area until moving into Kingsley in 1995.

She was a member of United Church of Christ (Congregational). She was an excellent seamstress and quilter. She enjoyed making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for her family and friends. She was a generous and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her extensive family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Bill of Kingsley; two daughters and their husbands, Judy and Jim Darby of Spooner, Wis., and Karen and Ray Wilson of Newbridge, Ore.; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; seven stepsons, Tom Hardie and his wife, Barb of Pierson, Chuck Hardie and his wife, Jean of Kingsley, Scott Hardie and his wife, Sarah of Marengo, Iowa, and Jim, Albert, Don and Mike Ploen of Moville; several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Don and Joyce Goddard of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ken and Lee Goddard of Plano, Texas; and six sisters, Fran Stevens of Granada Hills, Calif., Maurine Sobieski and her husband, Russell of Correctionville, Iowa, Marjorie Olander and Joanne Heise, both of Rhinelander, Wis., Bethel Nystrom and her husband, Hal of Hampton, Va., and Beverly Gaber and her husband, Dick of Washburn, Wis.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and an infant grandson.
