Marie A. Howard, 86, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, Iowa, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be 2 to 4 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 3 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Howard was born March 19, 1916, in Le Mars, the daughter of John and Theresa (Krantz) Feller. She grew up on the family farm near Le Mars.

She married Leonard C. Howard on Sept. 30, 1940, in Le Mars. The couple lived in Granville, Iowa, for many years and moved to Le Mars after their retirement. Mr. Howard died Oct. 8, 1998, in Sioux City. She had been living in Sioux City for the past nine years.

While living in Le Mars, she was a member of St. James Catholic Church. In Sioux City, she was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Jim and Cheryl Howard of Sioux City; a daughter, Dianne Whiting of Des Moines; a sister and her husband, Gertrude and Leo DeForce of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Ora Huseman of Shenandoah, Iowa; two grandchildren, Doug Whiting and his wife, Nickie and Jaimie Howard; and a great-grandchild, Megan Whiting.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Lawrence Feller; and three sisters, Lone Baadte, Ag Thorman and Alverna Longenhorst.

Pallbearers will be Gary Ericson, Ronn Gatewood, Don Schundevin, Dave Mathern, Larry Beeson and Doug Whiting.
