Rodney D. Groon, 46, of Akron, Iowa, died Saturday,
August 24. 1996 at his home after a brief Illness.
Services were held Wednesday, August 28, 1996, at Union
Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron, Iowa, with the Rev.
William Flemr, officiating. Music was the congregation singing
"Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." Gary Tucker
sang "Wings of a Snow White Dove." Ruth Stoutenburg accompanied
on the organ. Burial was in Union Creek Lutheran
Cemetery, rural Akron, under direction of Schroeder Funeral
Home, Akron, Iowa.

Casketbearers were Jerad Groon, Joshua Groon, Nathan
Croon, Ron Siemers, Jr., Joey Tentinger, Jeremy Tentinger,
Johnny Clarey, Dustln Hemmlngsen and Ben Beaulleu.

Mr. Groon was bom March 8, 1950 at Methodist Hospital in
Sioux City, Iowa, the son of G.Clifford and Betty (Wilson)
Groon. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron
High School in 1968. He then attended the University of
South Dakota, Vermillion and graduated in 1972 with a B.A.
in History and a minor in Geology.

He married Jeanne Clarey October 26, 1985 at Union
Creek Lutheran church. He worked for Hartmann Brothers
while he attended USD and then owned and operated Groon
Brothers Service Station. He then worked for Nielsen service
and Plueger's Co-op. He enjoyed rock collecting and coin collecting.

Mr. Groon was a member of Union Creek Lutheran Church,
rural Akron, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of Akron; one son, Kyle,
at home; one daughter, Karly, at home; his mother, Betty Groon
of Alcester, S.D.; four sisters, Gloria and her husband Ron
Siemers, Connie and her husband Tom Tentinger, all of Akron,
Janice and her husband Larry Cox of Laguna Niguel,
Calif., and Sandra Groon of La Habra, Calif.; four brothers,
Gerald Groon, Jr., and his wife Brenda, Kevin Groon and his
wife Paulette, Steve Groon, all of Akron, and Roger Groon and his
wife Joanne of Hemet, Calif.; several nieces and nephews and
several great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Clifford
Groon, Sr.; a brother, Edwin; his grandparents; and one
niece, Jessie.
