CARL DIRKS

LE MARS, Iowa—Carl Dirks, 90, of LeMars died Friday, July 13, 2001, at The Abbey in LeMars.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Monsignor Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mr. Dirks was born April 9, 1911, in Westfield, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Louise (Thiel) Dirks. He attended school in Westfield. He lived in the Akron area until 1951. He married Marie Beith on Nov. 2, 1951, in Vermillion, S.D. They lived in South Sioux City for 15 years before moving to California. Mrs. Dirks died in 1990. In 1995, he moved back to Akron.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at the Senior Center.

Survivors include two stepsons, Kenneth and Francis Welch, both of California; a stepdaughter, Arlene Welch of California; two nephews; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and special friends, Barb and Bruce Mitchell, of Akron.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Tracy Oltman and Amelia Mammen; a stepson, Richard Welch; a stepsister, Matey Dirks; and a niece.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Mitchell, Bob Popken, Rob Clarey, Katlin Mitchell, Eric Graves and Ron Schroeder.
