John Francis DeRocher, Jr., of Merrill, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 21 days, at his farm with family at his side after a courageous battle.

John was born Nov. 29, 1923, in Sioux Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of John Francis and Mary "Mayme" (Beaulieu) DeRocher Sr. He lived and farmed in Merrill all his life.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellendale, rural Merrill, with the Rev. Robert Waters and the Rev. James Bruch con-celebrating the mass. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ellendale. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. There was a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
