LOUISE M. DENNLER

LE MARS, Iowa—Louise M. Dennler, 90, of LeMars died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Floyd Valley Hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Presbyterian United Church of Christ with the Rev. Tim Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6-8 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Dennler was born May 21, 1910, in Spencer, Neb., the daughter of William Peter and Helen Louise (Brown) Mohr. She was raised in the Spencer area and graduated from Spencer High School. Following her education, she taught school in rural Spencer. She later attended Iowa State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in dietetics. She also received the Phi Beta Kappa Scholastic Award. Late in life she returned to receive her master’s degree. During World War II she worked as head dietician at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver, Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury, Conn., and Morton Hospital in Taunton, Mass.

She married Richard C. Dennler on May 17, 1944, in Denver. They lived in Merrill, Iowa, for 15 years, where she served on the school board. They moved to LeMars in 1964. She resumed her career and taught at Westmar College from 1965-1968. She then worked for the Iowa State Department of Health as a dietician. She retired in July 1977.

She was a member of Presbyterian United Church of Christ, had served as an elder and was active in circle. She was also a member of PEO Sisterhood (Chapter CD) and American Association of University Women. She belonged to several book clubs and played in many bridge clubs. She enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels and serving as a peer counselor.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Bill of Lafayette, Colo.; a daughter and her husband, Jane and Lewis Killebrew of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren, Chris, Katy, and Jordan Dennler, Matt and Justin Killebrew; and a sister, Jane Mosely, of Midland, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Charles G. Smith, and a brother, Peter.
