ESTHER CHRISTENSEN

Esther A. Christensen, 97, Indian Hills Care Center, died Friday, Oct. 6, 1995, at the care center following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Krishen A. Persaud officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. today, with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a 7p.m. prayer service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Christensen, the former Esther Hansen, was born April 26, 1898, in Menahga, Minn., the daughter of Neils and Augusta (Rasmussen) Hansen. She grew up near Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. She attended Dana Junior College for a year, and married Louis C. Christensen Oct. 24, 1923, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in Plymouth County, Iowa, until moving to Merrill, Iowa, in 1971. Mr. Christensen died Feb. 28, 1978, in Akron, Iowa. Mrs. Christensen moved to Sioux City in 1985.

Mrs. Christensen was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she had been a charter member since 1907. She was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir for many years, and was also a member of the Dorcas Society of the church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Leon and Cathy of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Allyn Holtz and Juanita and Clayton McLagan, all of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Minnie Hansen, of Hinton, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Viggo and Ejnar; a sister, Florence Peterson; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steven and Eric McLagan, Michael Holtz, Guy Sitzmann, Nicholas Pick, Brandon DeRocher and Stanley Christensen.
