Donald L. Rollinger, 91, of Le Mars, died Monday, June 2, 2008 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Donald Lewis Rollinger was born Aug.13, 1916, at Le Mars, the son of Herbert and Anna (Betten) Rollinger. He was raised in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars High School in 1935. On April 15, 1939 Don and Gwendolyn L. Reynolds were united in marriage. The couple made their home in Le Mars. On Nov. 11, 1943 Don enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served with the 79th Division in Europe during World War II. He earned his honorable discharge and the Bronze Star on Nov. 17, 1945, having attained the rank of Tec 5.

Following his military service, Don sold feed for Standard Chemical for 30 years throughout the Midwest. He also worked as a rural mail carrier for 30 years.

Don was a member of Wasmer American Legion Post #241 for 61 years. He served on the Senior Citizen's Board and was instrumental in the organization of the Le Mars Little League.

He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons David Rollinger of Le Mars, and Tim Rollinger and his wife Beth of Brunsville; nine grandchildren Heather Pech, Nathan Rollinger, Jennifer Welch, Jeff Rollinger, Kris Patton, Katie Rollinger, Joe Rollinger, Jill Rollinger and Amy Rollinger; seven great-grandchildren Anne, Joe and Sidney Patton, Ally, Gabby and Sam Welch and Timmy Pech; two daughters-in-law Linda Mayrose of Le Mars, and Nancy Rollinger of Minneapolis, Minn.; and a brother, Harley Rollinger and his wife Phylliss of Hampton, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Gwendolyn on Dec. 13, 1992; two sons Charles and Michael Rollinger.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A private family burial with military honors will take place at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars on Thursday, June 5, 2008. Pallbearers will be Don's grandchildren.
