Jon Marienau, 43, of rural Le Mars, died suddenly Saturday, May 24, 2008 on his brother's farm.
Jon Michael Marienau was born July 11, 1964, in Le Mars, the son of Jim and Verda (Renken) Marienau. Jon was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church. He received his education in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1982. Jon was united in marriage to Shawn Heuertz on July 18, 1992, at Christ Lutheran Church. Jon and Shawn were blessed with two sons, Brady and Lane.
Jon began farming with his father and grandpa, John "Pop" Marienau as a young man. He continued to be active on the farm with his dad and his brother Jason. Along with farming, Jon had a passion for construction. In 1993, Jon built his first hog confinement. In 1998, Jon established his construction business and has built or remodeled several buildings and homes throughout the last 15 years.
Jon's greatest pride in life were his children, Brady and Lane. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons. He also helped coach Little League and assisted with the Grant Little Giants 4-H Club.
Jon was a very active member of Christ Lutheran Church where he had been involved as an organist, sang in the choir, attended men's group, taught Sunday School, served on church council, and helped wherever he could on the church grounds.
Jon thoroughly enjoyed people, taking time to visit with anyone. Jon was very active with helping to establish the Veteran's Memorial in Brunsville working alongside his father and brother. He had also served in a variety of local organizations throughout Plymouth County.
Thankful for having been a part of his life are his wife of 15 years, Shawn and their sons, Brady and Lane of rural Le Mars; his parents, Jim and Verda Marienau of rural Le Mars; a sister, Jamie Goldmann and her husband Bill of Estes Park, Colo.; a brother, Jason Marienau and his wife Jennifer and their children, Jamison and Jaelyn of rural Le Mars; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Marline Heuertz of Le Mars; three sisters-in-law, Shelly Heuertz of Sioux City, Jill Monroe and her husband Brian of Clemmons, N.C., and Carrie Hanrahan and her husband Jeff of Big Lake, Minn.; several other nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and many friends.
Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Marie Marienau and John and Sena Renken.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars, (27071 C-16) with the Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Interment will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Christ Lutheran Church today (Tuesday). Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. with the family present at 5 p.m. A prayer service will follow at 7 p.m. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.
Pallbearers will be Dean Beitelspacher, Terry Renken, Todd Popken, Brandon Phelan, Todd Allen, and Lee Tyler. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Phelan, Tim Renken, Gene Beitelspacher, Bill Schlichte, Devin Kruse, and all of Jon's summer construction crew
