ERWIN ACKER

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- Erwin C. Acker, 81, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Friday, March 14, 1997, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls.

Mr. Acker was born Aug. 16, 1915, in LeMars, the son of Harry and Hilda (Boetcher) Acker. He grew up near LeMars and graduated from high school in 1933. After graduation, he helped his father farm west of Garretson, S.D., moving there in 1936. In 1940 he began working for Electrical Motor Repair. On Oct. 3, 1942, he married Wilma Dodd in Sioux Falls. The coupled moved to Sioux Falls in 1954. Mr. Acker retired in 1980. Mrs. Acker died Sept. 7, 1995.

He was a member of First Congregational Church, and past member of the Moose Lodge.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was also a baseball fan and avidly followed the Minnesota Twins. The couple was on a bowling league for several years.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Dennis and Cathy Acker and Neil and Denise Acker, all of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren, Marcy, Jamie, Dennis Jr., Kami, Brandon, Malinda, Kevin, Shaunna and Stacey; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Kahler of Sioux Falls.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Howard; and a sister, Avis Olmstead.

Funeral services were Monday, March 17, at the Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, with the Rev. Jack Brooks officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls.

Pallbearers were Larry Feay, Robert Kilburn, Hank Sachen and Irwin Jensen. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Acker, George Sachen and Wesley Munson.
