Janiece Black, 74, of Akron, died Monday, April 28, 2008 surrounded by her family at Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. The Rev. Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Thursday), with the family present after 6p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Visitation will resume from 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Janiece Black, 74, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 surrounded by her family at Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Visitation will resume from 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Janiece Elaine Black was born July 21, 1933 in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Ruby (Parker) Peters. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1951.

She was united in marriage to Arlyn L. Black (deceased 2001) on November 2, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron.

Janiece was a homemaker for her family. She provided childcare for numerous families in the Akron community. She worked for the Center of Management Systems from the early 80’s until 1991. From 1992 until retiring in 2000, she worked as a custodian for Akron-Westfield Community School.

She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron where she was active in the W.E.L.C.A. She liked reading, gardening and doing crafts. She also enjoyed following Iowa State athletics. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her 5 children: Douglas Black (Monti) of Houston, TX and their daughter, Laura Graham (Allen) of Colorado Springs, CO, Jo Lynn Black of Akron, IA, Gregory Black of Des Moines, IA, James Black (Sharyl) of Akron, IA and their children, Katie and Jared, and Thomas Black (Wendy) of Norwalk, IA and their son, Wyatt; and a brother: Donald (Pete) Peters of Akron, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her mother Ruby and her father John and his wife Ardis Peters
