ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Gertrude M. Hartog Jacobs, 95, of Orange City passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.

Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Gertrude Marie was born March 19, 1913, on a farm northeast of Orange City, the daughter of Jacobus and Grietje (Bonnes) Hofland. She was raised on that farm and attended the Holland Township No. 2 country school.

On April 12, 1933, she married John Hartog I at her parents' home. They made their home in Seney, Iowa, and were members of the Carnes Christian Reformed Church. Mr. Hartog passed away Dec. 11, 1942 in Le Mars, Iowa. She then moved to Orange City, where on Jan. 1, 1964, she married John Jacobs. He passed away in February 1973 in Orange City. In December 2007, she became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility.

She was a member of Dover Avenue Alliance Church and a prayer group which met in her home for many years. She placed her trust in Jesus many years ago and because of the finished work of the Savior, was confident that based on Ephesians 2:8 and 9, her salvation was a free gift of his grace, completely void of anything she could do to earn or keep it. She was a faithful prayer warrior, who held up each of her children and grandchildren before the Lord daily. She was a homemaker and mother for 75 years. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends. She collected plates, each of which held a special meaning to her.

Survivors include her six children and spouses, Mary Frances and Bill Korver of Tulsa, Okla., Geraldine and Vernon Kiel of Alton, Iowa, John and Martha Hartog II of Ankeny, Iowa, Marjorie and Robert Vander Aarde of Great Falls, Mont., Janice Veldhuis of Sheldon, Iowa, and Paul and Velma Hartog of Tulsa, Okla.; 16 grandchildren and spouses, Bruce and Margaret Korver, Michelle and Dale Johnson, Daniel and Jean Korver, Nancy and Steve Varner, Bill and Marcia Korver, Margeri and Wallace Pitts, Shawnee and Charlie Jakober, Lisa and Brian Hofmeyer, John III and Laura Hartog, Paul A. and Alne Hartog, Tamela and David Scholten, Liesl Vander Aarde, Angela and Jeff De Vries, Alison and Joel Sterk, Erin Hartog and Jason Hartog; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elsina (Henry) Bos of Hartley, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Elmer and Marj Hofland of Orange City; four sisters-in-law, Cynthia (Cornelius) Hofland, Etta (James) Hofland, Grace (Cornie) Hartog and

Wilhelmina (Garret) Hartog; and special neighbors, Donna and George Kleinhesselink.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Henry Veldhuis; a granddaughter, Donna Beth Veldhuis; a grandson-in-law, Kevin Mather; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Korver; and three brothers and three sisters, John Hofland, Angeline Horstman, Katherine Schuiteman, Cornelius Hofland, Henrieta Mars and James Hofland.
