OPAL JOHNSON

LE MARS, Iowa --- Opal Johnson, 85, of LeMars, a lifelong Plymouth county resident, died Monday, May 6, 1996, at The Abbey in LeMars.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with the Rev. Robert Grupp officiating. Burial will be in Union Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson was born July 10, 1910, on the family farm in Union township, the daughter of John and Arva (Stauffer) Milton. She attended country school in Union township.

In April 1931 she married Leonard Johnson in Richland, S.D. The couple farmed in Union Township until his death in October 1984. She had been a resident of The Abbey since January 1992. She was baptized May 29, 1994.

Mrs. Johnson enjoyed gardening and embroidery work.

Survivors include a daughter, Bernice Baker, of LeMars; a sister and her husband, Phyllis and Walt Meister, of Sioux City; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd Milton, Melvin Mackay and Donald Mackay, and a sister, Hope Milton.

Pallbearers will be Don, Robert and Steve Bleil, Homer Dumas, Gary Grage and Everett Groenhagen.
