RUTH A. LAMOUREUX
Ruth A. Lamoureux, 76, rural Akron (Ruble), Iowa, died Saturday, June 10, 1989, in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Lamoureux, the former Ruth A. Marbach, was born Oct. 30, 1912, in Ruble, to Henry C. and Mattie M. Johnson Marbach. She graduated from Akron High School in 1930, continuing her education at the Lutheran School of Nursing in Sioux City where she graduated in 1934. She worked as a private duty nurse from 1934 to 1942 at the Akron hospital.
She enlisted in the U.S. Army as a nurse in 1942. She took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and went overseas to England in Sept. 1943. In 1944, she served as a surgical nurse with the 39th EVAC Hospital in France. She moved with Gen. George Patton’s Third Army across France, Belgium and into Germany. She was discharged with honors from the service in January 1946 with the rank of captain ANC. She was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Meritorious Medal with the Women’s Army Corps in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters.
Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law Thomas W. and Rosa of Cerritos, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary H.L. and Lynn Hovland of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Jennifer L. and Andrew T. Lamoureux and Collette A. Lamoureux and a step-granddaughter, Tatiana L. Armstrong; a former daughter-in-law, Candice Greenwood of Grand Forks, N.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Helen) Hoffman of LeMars, and Mrs. Kenneth (Wilma) Treinen of Remsen; and two brothers, Kenneth Marbach of Sioux City and Lowell Marbach of LeMars.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
