Oliva E. Muir, 91, of St. Louis, Mo., and formerly of Le Mars, died Sunday, June 17, 2007, at the Mary Culver House in Kirkwood, Mo.
Oliva Elizabeth Muir was born Aug. 14, 1915 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Mairose) Heissel. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Le Mars.
Oliva and Vincent M. Muir were united in marriage June 16, 1937 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Fonda. They later lived in Merrill and Remsen. Vincent died on April 27, 1972.
Oliva went to work at the Happy Siesta Nursing home in Remsen and later at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. She retired in 1993 and moved to St. Louis, Mo., to be closer to family.
Oliva was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen where she sang in the choir for many years. She later became a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. She also participated in a craft club in St. Louis.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Darrell Muir and his wife Ann of Palm Coast, Fla., Rochelle Jones of Oxford, Ala., Lisa Ruprecht and her husband Stefan of St. Louis, Mo., and Germaine Kautz of Panama, Neb.; 10 grandchildren Mark Muir, Ellen Moore, Donna Pickney, Deana Kaitala, Brittnay, Ian, and Alana Tucker, Kim Deaton, Michelle Cashman, and Jennifer Kautz; 10 great-grandchildren Ashley and Kyle Muir, Kaitlin and Tyler Moore, Kiara Colson, Valen and Vandyn Pickney, John Thomas, Amanda and Arron Deaton; a sister, Mary Lihudis of Le Mars; sisters-in-law Joan Heissel and Delores Heissel both of Le Mars, and Jan Heissel of Storm Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vincent; a son Gerald Muir; a son-in-law, Charles H. Jones; brothers, William, Francis and Cyril Heissel; sisters Luella Baack and Betty Singer; brothers-in-law Orville Baack, Archie Singer, and John Lihudis.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Jim Tigges officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and will continue until Mass.
The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
