Lucille Slay of San Antonio, Texas, died on Monday, July 23, 2007, at age 83.

Mrs. Slay, the former Lucille Oetken, was born Nov. 17, 1923, to John and Gretha (Lubben) Oetken at rural Le Mars. In 1942, Lucille and her sister Alice moved to San Francisco, Calif., in search of job opportunities. It was there that she met James Slay of San Antonio, who was in the United States Navy. They were married on March 6, 1946 in San Francisco, Calif. They established their home in San Antonio, Texas.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Russell and his wife Kathy of Baytown, Texas; grandson, Scott and his wife Laura, of Houston, Texas; a granddaughter Shelby of Phoenix, Ariz.,and a great-granddaughter, Ava of Houston, Texas; two brothers Herman Oetken of Le Mars and Don Oetken and his wife Dixie of Brunsville; sisters Alice Reid of San Ramon, Calif., and Marlene Arens and her husband Tom of Le Mars; and a brother-in-law Leonard Campbell of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1984; her brothers, Lawrence and his wife Shirley, Kenneth and his wife Sandra; a sister Laura Campbell, a sister-in-law Frances Oetken, and a brother-in-law John Reid.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 27. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 26, at the Porter Loring Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas. Internment will be at Fort Sam Houston Military Cemetery.
