Mildred Brodersen, 87, of Le Mars, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Village (Brentwood) in Le Mars.

Mildred Gertrude Howard was born June 23, 1920, on a farm near Homer, Neb., the daughter of Levi Lawson Howard and Annie Elizabeth (Flanagan) Howard, the youngest of 10 children. She received her education at country schools near Ponca, Neb., Yukon, Okla., and attended high school at Macy, Neb. Mildred later attended Edwards Business Institute in Sioux City. Mildred was united in marriage to Oscar J. Brodersen on Feb. 26, 1941, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City. This marriage was blessed with five daughters: Bev, Rosie, Norma, Noreen and Jan. As an adult, Mildred was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

Mildred had worked as a legal secretary for many years. She had worked at an attorney's office in Mapleton, Iowa for 13 years and also worked for Deborah Luff in Sioux City as her legal secretary and later worked for the Bauerly, Trotzig and Bauerly Law Office in Le Mars.

Mildred was a dedicated Christian having spent 16 years working as one of the secretaries at Grace Lutheran Church. Mildred had also worked as a cook for the Union Consolidated School and Liberty Consolidated School in her younger years.

Mildred was a faithful wife, mother and her family and friends came foremost in her life, after her Lord and Savior. In an act of dedication, Mildred gave the gift of sight by donating her eyes to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.

Survivors include her five children: Bev Byroad of Carrollton, Texas, Rosie Nipp and her friend Kent Rasmussen of Merrill, Norma Lash and her husband Bruce of Arnolds Park, Noreen Bohl and her husband Gregg of Graettinger, and Jan Wrase and her husband Norman of Spencer; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harold and Mary Lou Brodersen of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Leona De Harty of South Sioux City, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Oscar on Feb. 4, 1983; seven brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Russie, Cleo and Helen, Louie and Naomi, Earl and Eva, Roy and Delia, Ivan and Francis, and a brother Cecil in infancy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Peal and Willard Owens and Faye and Herbert Harris; a great-grandchild, Dylan Eyres; a son-in-law, Thomas Nipp; a sister-in-law and her husband, Eldora and Eugene Thoreson; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chris and Pauline Brodersen; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitations will be after 4 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 7 p.m. prayer service Tuesday at the funeral home. Visitations will continue Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
