Tammy Sue Calkins, 37, of Akron, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Tammy Sue Calkins was born Jan. 4, 1970, in Le Mars, the daughter of Jack and Evelyn (Bennett) Calkins. Tammy was baptized into the Catholic faith. Tammy attended elementary school in Westfield and later in Sioux City. In 1984, she was enrolled at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School. She graduated from this school in 1991. She worked for Life Skills Training Center in Le Mars for a few years. After a fall in 1994, Tammy required additional care and became a resident of the Akron Care Center.

Tammy lived her life to the fullest and along the way shared her many gifts with people. She enjoyed working with wood; she had made jewelry boxes, step stools, and shelves. Her favorite past time was talking.

Survivors include her mom and step-dad, Evelyn and Terry Morehead of Akron; her dad and step-mom, Jack and Jenyce Calkins of Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Christine Wangerin and her husband Ernie of Navarre, Fla., and Tracey Ehlers and her fiancé Matt Sanfilippo of Navarre, Fla.; four nephews, Benjamin, Brandon, and Blake Wangerin, and Caden Book; and a niece, Kabree Sanfilippo.

Tammy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Louis and Violet Bennett and her paternal grandparents, Vero Calkins and Julia Calkins Buccola.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Akron. The Rev. Steve Jewett of New Horizons United Church of Christ in Akron will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitations will be after 5 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Akron.

Pallbearers will be Jim Ernst, Ken Ernst, Kevin Ernst, Scott Morehead, Marc Morehead, Mathew Morehead, and Donnie Burmakow.
