Robert "Bob" Prine, 84, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.
Robert Prine was born April 6, 1923, in Greenfield, Iowa, the son of Leonard "Pete Prine and Mable (Sheldon) Prine. Mable later married John Ray Alley. Bob was raised in the Presbyterian faith. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1941 and continued his education at Grandview College in Des Moines. Bob was united in marriage to Shirley MacDonald on March 31, 1944, in Des Moines.
In 1949, Bob went to work for the REC as a lineman in Greenfield, until 1957. He then began his career with NIPCO as a lineman, having lived in the communities of Ida Grove, Primghar, and later moved to Le Mars in 1973. When Bob and his family moved to the Le Mars area, he worked in the Control Room for NIPCO for the last 15 years before he retired in 1988.
For more than 30 years, Bob and Shirley enjoyed their annual vacation to Lake Carlos near Alexandria, Minn. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and working crossword puzzles. Bob will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love for his family.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Shirley of Le Mars; two daughters, Pam Prine of Le Mars and Connie Ginger and her husband Thomas of Sanborn; four grandchildren: Tammy Ginger of Hartley, Cristy Ginger and her fiancé Brent Elgersma of Sanborn, Tommy Robert Ginger and his wife Rachel of Primghar, Wendy Reitsma and her husband Heath of Sanborn; and seven great grandchildren, Haley, Heather, Cody, Cole, Craig, Carter, Lacie, and Luke.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; step-father; a great-grandson, Gabriel "Gab" Reitsma; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Jason Larson of United Methodist Church of Le Mars officiating. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Greenfield Cemetery at Greenfield. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m.. Visitations will continue Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Ken Kolker, Don Butcher, Bill Gengler, Tommy Ginger, Mark Kodem, Jim Shepherd, and Tom Ginger.
