Janet Staab, 83, of Slayton, Minn., died Monday, March 24, 2008, at the Golden Living Center-Slayton.
The former Janet Clara Langel was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Le Mars, the daughter of Joseph and Frances Meyer Langel. She was the sixth of nine siblings. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1944. Following graduation. Janet worked in Sioux City.
On Oct. 26, 1948, she and Clarence Staab were married in Le Mars. Following their marriage they farmed near Hadley, Minn., and raised their four children. In 1985 they moved to Slayton, Minn. Janet worked as a CNA in the Balaton, Pipestone, and Slayton nursing homes and also at the Slayton Hospital. She thoroughly enjoyed her work until her retirement in 1990. Clarence died on Oct. 19, 1991.
In 1995, Janet moved to Rapid City to live with her sister Dorothy Ann. In 2000 Janet returned to Minnesota and made her home in Heron Lake, Minn. In 2004 she moved to Slayton. On March 20, 2008, she became a resident of the Golden living Center-Slayton and died there on March 24.
She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Slayton. Janet enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed watching Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune, playing cards, games, reading and word find puzzles.
Survivors include her three children, Linda Doescher of Slayton, Minn., Patricia and Steve Braun of Cottonwood, Minn., and Daniel and Sharon Staab of Hadley, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Dula Farrington of Merrill; and long time family friend Mary Byrne of Slayton, Minn.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence Staab; one son, David Mark Staab; one great-granddaughter, Justine Doescher; six sisters, Juliet Langel, Marie Owens, Lorraine Langel, Saverna Albers, Dorothy Ann Langel, and Lois Campbell, and one brother, Ervin Langel.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Church in Slayton, with the Rev. Patrick Arens officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in Slayton. Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
The honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, Shawna Tusberg, Rick Doescher, Eric Stabb, Nicholas Doescher, Brandy Staab, Ryan Braun, Michael Doescher, Shalesha Braun, Amanda Doescher, Brent Staab, and Kayla Staab.
