Doris M. "Dottie" Ruhland, 77, of Le Mars was smiling peacefully as she passed into the arms of God on Good Friday March 21, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars, in Le Mars.

Dottie was born March 9, 1931, in Obert, Neb., one of 11 children of Michael and Mary Agnes (Mackey) Conley. She grew up in Jackson and South Sioux City, Neb., and graduated from Sioux City Cathedral High School. On May 22, 1950, Dottie married Anthony Ruhland at St. Joseph's Catholic Church -- Neptune. Following their marriage the couple farmed for many years south of Le Mars in Stanton Township. They moved into Le Mars in 1991.

Dottie had been employed for several years at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, otherwise she was a fulltime mother and homemaker.

Dottie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the church guild in Le Mars, the Christian Mother's Society, Bible Study Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She and Tony were also actively involved in Cursillo Retreats for many years.

She enjoyed traveling, dancing and golfing. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Tony Ruhland of Le Mars; nine children: Deborah and Mark Jones of Apple Valley, Minn., Ann and Kevin Thompson of Lompoc, Calif., Becky and Lonnie Wenzel of Kingsley, Keith and Michelle Ruhland of Mission Viejo, Calif., Rodney Ruhland of Lake View Terrace, Calif., Tom Ruhland of Le Mars, Kati and Dave Bak of Merrill, Tony Ruhland of Hinton and Heidi and Mike Roberts of Le Mars; 29 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Theresa Burbach of Grand Island, Neb., and Shirley Bernard of Culver City, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Terri Ruhland; two brothers; and six sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Kevin Richter presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Lincoln Township, rural Hinton. Visitation at St. Joseph's Church will be after 3 p.m. today (Monday), where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. by the Christian Mothers Society and a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday morning at the Church for one hour before the funeral.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Pallbearers will be eight grandsons: Josh Jones, Ben Jones, Matt Jones, Ryan Jones, Shane Wenzel, Justin Wenzel, Shawn Bak and Ethan Bak.
