George Armand Pavlik, 78, of Le Mars, died June 10, 2006, in Le Mars following a brief illness.

George Armand Pavlik was born March 13, 1928 in Sioux City, the son of George and Amy (McKercher) Pavlik. After graduating from Le Mars Community High School in 1946, George earned a B.A. degree from Westmar College in 1949, a juris doctorate from University of Iowa College of Law in 1952 and a masters of arts degree from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in 1955.

He served in the Iowa State Guard during World War II and on active duty as a first lieutenant in the Army Judge Advocate General Corps from 1952-1955 and became a Captain in the Guard. He was commissioned as a Foreign Service Officer, Vice Counsel at the Consulate General in Toronto, Canada and Intelligence Analyst for the Department of State. Later, he worked as a legislative assistant to Iowa U. S. Senator Buorke Hickenlooper, Senator Robert Packwood, Congressman Wm. Scherle, and Congressman Wiley Mayne.

He was a research assistant for the Republican National Committee and worked as a legal consultant in Washington D.C. until his return to Iowa in 1989 where he worked with H&R Block Tax Services until his retirement.

He was President of the Capital Hill Chapter (Washington D. C.) of the Federal Bar Association and was a member of the American Bar Association, Iowa Bar Association, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, American Society for International Law, American Legion Foreign Service Association, Wasmar Post of the American Legion, Plymouth County Historical Museum, Le Mars Postal Playhouse and the Alpha Phi Omega National Boy Scout Service Fraternity.

A lifelong Republican, he was an active member of the various Young Republican Clubs and served as President of the Washington D.C. Chapter. He chaired the Republican Headquarters in Le Mars in 1960 and served in Washington D. C. during the campaigns for Barry Goldwater, Wiley Mayne, and Gerald Ford.

He enjoyed singing in the choir at United Methodist Church, photography, travel, reading, participating in musicals and drama, and corresponding with relatives.

His survivors include a sister-in-law, Shirley Pavlik of Le Mars; seven nieces and nephews, David and Lana Pavlik of Ames, Dan Pavlik of Merrill, Mary and Steve Kovarna of Merrill, Sandi Stearns of Knoxville, Scott and Lisa Pavlik of Ellington, Mo., Shari and Kevin Scott of Chesapeake, Va., and Shawn and Laura Pavlik of Cedar Rapids; 13 great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-grandnephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amy and George Pavlik; his brothers, Vincent and Norman Pavlik; an infant sister, Constance; and a nephew, Tom Pavlik.

A memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. Friday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Jason Larson of the United Methodist Church of Le Mars will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Lunch and fellowship will follow the service at the Mauer - Johnson Family Gathering Room. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will follow at a later date at Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
