Marie K. Britt, 86, of Le Mars, died peacefully on Monday March 17, 2008, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab. Center, following a brief illness.

The former Marie Katherine Roeser was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Ponca, Neb., the daughter of Michael and Mary (Weber) Roeser. She attended elementary school at School District #13 and graduated from Ponca High School in May 1938. Marie was employed for a few years with the Farm Security Office in Ponca and later worked for White and White attorneys in Storm Lake.

On June 4, 1947 she married Vernon "Bud" Britt at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. They lived on a farm near Neptune, south of Le Mars for many years. In April of 1985 Marie and Bud moved into Le Mars. Bud died Aug. 25, 1996. Marie moved to Lawton in March 2004 and resided at Char-Mac Assisted Living.

Marie was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She was a homemaker and she along with her family entertained many foreign exchange students. She had also been a 4-H leader for seven years. Marie raised a big garden and did lots of canning. She also did quite a bit of sewing, making clothes for her girls and made many quilts. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing pinochle and rummy cube.

Survivors include three sons, Gerald and Pat Britt of Aurelia, Dennis and Joyce Britt of Le Mars and Randy and Sheila of Le Mars; two daughters: Diane and Bob Cloud of Danbury and Carol and Doug Ryan of Kingsley; a son-in-law Tom Nelson of Newcastle, Neb.; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a brother, Vincent and Joyce Roeser of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon "Bud" Britt; her parents; a daughter Carla Nelson; a brother Lawrence Roeser and his wife Jean Roeser; and a grandson Chris Cloud.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars will be after 3 p.m. today (Tuesday), where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake Service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be six grandsons: Tony Ryan, Paul Cloud, Michael Britt, Jeremy Britt, Clint Britt and Brad Nelson.
