Phyllis (Galyen) Skinner, of Downey, Calif., a former resident of Merrill and graduate of Merrill High School class of 1956, peacefully passed away on Aug. 27, 2007 from pancreatic cancer.

The daughter of Floyd and Cornelia Galyen, Phyllis resided in Merrill until 1960, when she met and married her first husband, John England. The two settled in Lynwood, Calif. She worked for the Lynwood Unified School district as a principal's secretary until her retirement in 1991.

After her husband's death in 1984, Phyllis eventually remarried in 1989 to Marshall Skinner, Jr. and moved to Downey, Calif.

She is survived by her husband Marshall, her sons William England and James and his wife, Susan England, her daughter Debra and her husband, Mike North, and a stepson Rob and his wife Kelley Skinner, as well as two granddaughters Julie Tardaguila and Kelsey England.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Galyen.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Rose Hills in Whittier, Calif.

Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Phyllis's name to the American Cancer Society.
