Petra A. Boyer, 54, of Le Mars, and formerly of Germany, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Petra Angelika Ruhnau was born Nov. 2, 1952 in Berlin, Germany to Karl and Herta (Lau) Ruhnau. She received her education in Berlin and had worked as a seamstress, sales, and later as an office worker. While living in Berlin, Petra met her future husband, Glen Boyer. The couple later married on Nov. 2, 1991 in Las Vegas, Nev., while vacationing.
After the Berlin Wall was taken down, the economies in Germany struggled. In 1995 Glen returned to the United States and Petra followed in 1996. Petra and Glen lived in Hesperia, Calif., until 2000 and then moved to Milwaukee, Wis. While living in Milwaukee, Petra began working for Wal-Mart. In February of 2007, Petra and Glen moved to Le Mars. While living in Le Mars Petra worked for Wal-Mart and Glen drove for Schuster Co.
Petra enjoyed living in Le Mars and meeting the community at work. She quickly became known for wearing her "pink hat" while assisting customers at Wal-Mart. She enjoyed her home and especially tending to her flowers.
Petra is survived her husband of 15 years, Glen of Le Mars; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebekka and Rene Feist of Berlin; and a grandson, Jared Joshua also of Berlin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Herta (Lau) Ruhnau.
Honoring her wishes, Petra will be cremated and there will be no additional services. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.
